You kick off your shoes at the end of a long day and feel that sharp ache. You reach for a balm to soothe your aching feet every night before finally going to bed. Every morning, you tiptoe out of bed to avoid that familiar pain in your heels. You blame your shoes, add a more expensive pair to your cart, but the discomfort lingers. Feels familiar?

Here is why:

In India, most of us grew up walking barefoot at home or in flat sandals, often without realising the long-term impact on our foot health. Combine this with hard floors and hectic commutes, and it is no surprise that conditions like flat feet, heel spurs and plantar fasciitis have become increasingly common. Yet insoles are often ignored until the pain cannot be.

We are here to change that. By the end of this guide, you will understand your feet better, know your arch type, and know which of our arch support insoles fits it.

Let's walk through it together.

What is arch support and why does it matter?

Diagram of the foot arch acting like a suspension bridge under body weight

Your foot's arch is like a suspension bridge bearing your weight and balancing each step. This arch acts like a spring, absorbing shock and redistributing pressure while you run, walk or stand.

Without the right arch support, your foot can:

  • Collapse inward (overpronate)
  • Shift weight to the outer edge (supinate)
  • Cause pain in the heels, knees, hips or lower back

Arch support is simply a shape under the midfoot that holds the arch at its natural height, so the bridge does not sag with every step. It sounds small. It is the single biggest difference between an insole that works and a cushion that just feels soft for a week.

How do I know if I need arch support insoles?

We spoke with Indian professionals working in jobs where standing for long hours and high daily activity are the norm.

"Because of the nature of my work, I have to stick to Birkenstocks or basic, comfortable shoes. Jordans are good for style, but they are not very comfortable for longer hours," says a female interior architect.

"We are working while standing for hours on end. This is easily overlooked, but somebody should address it now in India. It's a real problem with chefs, and even the hospitality industry," says a chef.

These stories reflect what many people quietly endure because they are not aware of what can help them. Whether you are an architect, interior designer, doctor, nurse, chef, painter or field engineer, your footwear often prioritises style over comfort. When discomfort becomes routine, it is easy to accept it as part of the job. But often there is a deeper problem being missed.

For the chef, and anyone else who stands in one spot for hours, the answer is in two parts. An everyday arch support insole in the work shoe, like the Daily Relief Arch Insole at ₹549, and something under the feet where they stand. The Circulo Active Mat is built for exactly that kitchen counter.

For the architect living in sandals, a full insole is not an option. The Belle ArchEase Cushions, ₹279, are a slim arch pad that sticks to the footbed of a sandal or flat and gives the arch something to rest on.

For everyone else, the question is which arch height. That starts with knowing your arch type.

How do I identify my arch type?

Knowing your arch type is step one in choosing the right support. While it is best to speak with your doctor about ongoing foot pain, you can start with a simple wet foot test to understand your arch type:

  1. Wet your feet in a tub.
  2. Step onto a sheet of paper or cardboard and stand for a few seconds.
  3. Step away carefully.
  4. Look at the imprint and compare it with the guide below.

What kind of arch support do I need?

This is the part that matters most, and the part most people get wrong. Arch support insoles come in different heights, and the right one is chosen by the shape of your foot, not by how much it hurts. A taller arch is not a stronger insole. It is a different shape for a different foot. Put a flat foot on a high arch and it feels like standing on a golf ball all day.

Match your footprint and your symptoms to the table:

Arch type What you feel Your wet test print Arch height you need 8ease product Price
Flat feet / collapsed arches Feet tire quickly. Pain in the inner ankles. Shoes wear out on the inside edge Almost the whole foot shows 7 mm, a structured lift that supports the midfoot without forcing it ProSupport Low Arch ₹849
Medium / normal arch with daily fatigue Soreness builds through the day. Relief only when sitting or barefoot A clear curve on the inside, about half the midfoot showing 12 mm, structured support for a normal arch under long hours ProSupport Medium Arch ₹849
High arches Pain in the ball or heel of the foot. Feet feel unstable when running or dancing. Outer edge of shoes wears faster Only the heel and ball of the foot show, a thin strip or nothing between 17 mm, a tall arch that fills the gap under the midfoot ProSupport High Arch ₹849
Sharp heel pain (plantar fasciitis) Stabbing pain in the heel when you wake up. Tightness under the arch. Worse after standing Any print; the symptom is what matters Arch support that unloads the fascia, plus a deep heel cup Plantar Specialist ₹1,499
Normal arch, tired feet, no specific pain Feet just ache after a long day on hard floors Normal print Everyday arch support and cushioning Daily Relief Arch Insole ₹549

All three ProSupport heights are the same price, so there is no reason to pick by budget. Pick by foot. If you are between two rows, start with the lower arch. It is easier for a foot to accept a little less lift than a little too much.

Think prevention, not cure. Good support intervenes early, keeps minor discomfort from becoming a chronic condition, and reduces the need for pain balms and endless stretches.

3 things to keep in mind before choosing an arch support insole

1. Choose the right material

Most cheap insoles use basic EVA or gel that compresses over time, losing both shape and support. That is where open-cell foam technology makes all the difference.

8ease insoles use Ortholite® open-cell foam, developed to reduce weight without sacrificing the comfort and performance that active people demand:

Breathable: Keeps feet cooler and drier, especially in Indian heat.

Adaptive: Takes the shape of your foot and offers the support required.

Resilient: Holds its structure over 2+ years of use, unlike flimsy gel pads.

This ensures that comfort is not temporary. It lasts, even if your work days are long and active.

2. Built-in arch support vs gel add-ons

Most people think arch support means extra padding. But that is only part of the story. Gel inserts may feel nice when you first step in, but they are just cushioning. Over time they flatten, shift around in your shoe, and stop offering any real alignment.

What your feet need is a built-in structure: a contoured base that mirrors the natural arch of your foot and guides your posture back to balance. The ProSupport range has a semi-rigid arch shell moulded into the insole at 7, 12 or 17 mm, meaning your foot is not resting on foam, it is being held in the right position.

This means:

  • Better long-term support
  • Less fatigue by the end of the day
  • More stability with every step
  • Less heat retention during long days

3. Durability: can it go the distance?

A good insole should bounce back, not break down. Here is what to look for:

High rebound: The insole material returns to shape after pressure and wear.

Breathable and anti-microbial: Stays cooler, reduces odour build-up.

Anti-peel top layer: Designed for long commutes and Indian heat.

No slipping: Trim-to-fit and textured grip for a snug, secure fit.

Cheaper insoles might seem like a bargain, but if they flatten out in three months, they will cost you more in pain, replacements and foot strain.

Are arch support insoles recommended by doctors?

If you have chronic pain, plantar fasciitis, flat feet or postural issues, do not gamble on untested products. Look for accreditation or expert review. These serve as proof that what you are using has been evaluated for your foot health.

8ease arch support insoles carry two of them:

The APMA Seal of Acceptance: The American Podiatric Medical Association reviews products for foot health and accepts the ones that meet its standard. Our Ortholite® insoles carry the Seal.

Ortholite® technology: The same open-cell foam trusted by Nike, Adidas, Timberland, Skechers and 500+ global footwear brands. It is not a material we invented. It is the one the shoe industry already relies on, put into an insole you can move between every pair you own.

Final thoughts: don't ignore your feet

Insoles are not just for the elderly or athletes. They are for anyone whose feet feel tired, achy or unsupported, which, let's face it, is most of us. The right arch support insole can prevent long-term pain, improve posture, and make daily walking or standing significantly more comfortable.

Before you buy just any insert online, understand your feet, match the support to your arch, and choose products that are backed by science and reviewed by experts.

FAQs

Q1. I sweat a lot. Won't insoles make it worse?
"I sweat a lot, and most of the insoles then become uncomfortable to wear." says an interior designer. Look for insoles made with open-cell foam that allow air circulation, wick moisture better, and tend to stay cooler, even in warm Indian weather. All 8ease Ortholite® insoles are also machine washable.

Q2. How do I know if an insole will stay in place and last?
"Existing insoles do not grip the shoe properly and lose proper placement." says an athlete. Choose anti-slip grip insoles that contour well to your shoe and keep their structure over time. Removing the shoe's original insole before you put the new one in also stops it sliding.

Q3. Which arch height should I buy if I am not sure?
Do the wet foot test. If the print shows almost the whole foot, Low Arch. A clear curve, Medium Arch. Only the heel and the ball of the foot, High Arch. If you are between two, start with the lower one. All three ProSupport heights cost the same, so nothing is lost by choosing by foot shape.

Q4. Is a higher arch a stronger insole?
No. The arch height matches the shape of your foot, not the severity of your pain. A 17 mm arch on a flat foot will feel like a lump and will not help. The most supportive insole is the one that matches your arch.

Q5. Are there even good insoles available in India?
Yes. Look for insoles built for Indian conditions like heat, humidity and varied foot shapes. Ortholite® open-cell PU foam offers a noticeable upgrade in both comfort and longevity over the gel and EVA pads sold at most chemists.

Q6. Are arch support insoles worth it?
Yes. A good pair of arch insoles helps you avoid long-term damage and feel better doing the things you already do, like walking, running and working. Buy a pair that is washable and lasts 2+ years so that the cost works out to a few rupees a day.

Q7. Can I use the same insole in all my shoes?
Yes, if it is trim-to-fit and washable. Cut it to the outline of the shoe's original insole and it moves between work shoes, sneakers and walking shoes. For sandals and flats, use the Belle ArchEase cushion instead.
